So you're a traditionalist in this country? Good luck

I'm not a traditionalist I'm a centrist. I don't drink the conservative or liberal kool-aid. Before this modern era of political vitriol, most Americans were centrists as well.

There were conservatives, liberals, and moderates long before Trump. And there will continue to be long after his presidency is a footnote in history.
Trump's brand of conservatism is as far away from what I believe as is humanly possible. And the truth is a lot of conservatives and most moderates don't like or support him either.

Also yes centrist are real, we make up a huge chunk of America and we always have. Centrists are the people who vote republican one election than democrat the next because we aren't tied to one particular ideology.

And Bernie's a piece of shit too for originally supporting it, and for not supporting reparations.

I don't know about the last sentence, but that liberal-conservative paradigm is for mainstream America, that's why white democrats don't address racial issues much. If you're black in America, that's what you are, BLACK.

The thing I've never understood about 'conservatism' is what exactly are they trying the conserve? I'm not a 'liberal' or 'progressive', but I'm more inclined to believe that the world is a much safer place if left-leaning folks dictate public policy. They generally tend to want to improve society, not preserve archaic and outdated modes of thought. So a 'black' conservative just further complicated this. I mean, slavery, Jim crow, back of the bus, separate water fountains, is that what you want?

'Pence casts tie-breaking vote to confirm Betsy DeVos as Education Secretary.'

SMH watching future Democratic Presidential nominee, Cory "flip-flop" Booker, lead the charge against DeVros.

Why do you think DeVros is qualified to be Secretary of Education???

Newsflash, not every kid needs or is going to have the opportunity to go to private or charter schools.
Public education is still the foundation of our primary education system in America and somehow it needs to be improved across the board.

But privatizing the entire public education and having two, 'separate' public/private education systems subsidized by the federal government is NOT sustainable.

Let's be real, many proponents of charter schools are in it for the profit motive, not for some altruistic desire to educate America's disadvantaged children.

BTW with the Donald as POTUS, I don't think the term 'flip flop' can be used as a pejorative against any politician ever again. Trump in the primaries changed his opinions on issues in the same sentence.lol

Most HS principals IMO are more qualified to be Secretary of Education than Betsy DeVros.

Assuming you are asking me, thats a ridiculous question. A minority person can be conservative and not want ( or be ok with) to roll back the clock to the days of jim crow ect. The article raised some interesting questions as to whether additional viewpoints should be heard in minority communities, if the Democratic party takes the minority vote for granted, and what conservatives can doe to better reach out to minorities. Tough questions to wrestle with and worthy of discussion imo.

I found the following paragraphs from the article to have a particular ring of truth to it..

"Also, because black people’s painful past experiences with racism have unfortunately made black people hypersensitive to any and all alleged claims of racism, whether real or imagined, the Democratic Party can simply repeat the mantra that “Republicans are racist” to galvanize black people against the GOP. There will always be one racist idiot they can point to and proclaim, “See, Republicans are racist!” especially with far-left academia constantly inventing new types of racism and new ways to find it.

This is enough to keep most black people in the D column while absolving the Democratic Party of actually doing anything to improve the lives of black people. This is why cleverly positioning racism as the number one threat to black people, and constantly finding new ways to paint society as racist, has been a genius political strategy by the Left."

But Republicans are usually racist. How can we work with people who are against us on every level. Here's the simple truth you can assess everything you need to know about a party by who they attract who they support and what they ignore.
Republicans in mass either support or ignore homophobia, xenophpboa, and racism. As a block they are completely ok with the destruction of others whether it's a supposed or real threat.
Secondly it attracts low information or completely ignorant people who constantly vote for people who are against their interests.
Why would any middle class to poor black person support this.

What about actual realities of foaming white supremacists who are part of the party. People who make open political discourse impossible and don't believe in actual facts. I literally don't get how a thinking man can attach themselves to people like that

I and millions of other centrists in America agree with you. Opposing Trump's racist and misogynistic agenda is not the exclusive domain of the far-left.

I hear you loud and clear here TDK, to quote Bill Maher, not all republicans are racists, but racists are more than likely republican. As we have discussed before I spent many a year here in this crazy conservative far right state working from within the GOP to change the blatant and subtle racism that was omnipresent. Some gains were made but in the end I felt I could make more of an impact as an independent. I have seen plenty of racism from the Dems as well, but imo it is not so much the blatant cross burning type racism but more the paternalistic, lowered expectations type of racism. Despite leaving the GOP, I still dont like the fact that minorities are under represented and when they are in power we literally have next to no voice and very few to advocate for change, and to educate.

In my GOP days, I honestly saw decisions and strategies that were clearly racist that were born out of sheer ignorance and lack of understanding not out of hatred. I and a few others personally influenced some change in state policies, because I was present to speak out and educate those in power who would have been clueless otherwise. There are some republicans who truly reject all of the homophobia, xenophobia, and racism that you mention above and truly seek a "big tent" platform that would benefit all people. Yes they are too far and few between, but again I believe we should be supporting and encouraging those types of republicans not turning our back on them.
