The CW is casting for a new TV series based on the Archie comics.
the new show is titled 'Riverdale' and will be a "subversive" take on the classic comics.

Interestingly enough, they are doing quite a bit of race-swapping for the cast.

Veronica is going to be played by a Latina actress and Josie (from Josie and the Pussycats) is going to be Black.

And in typical CW fashion the race-switching is only for the female roles. The white male characters remain safely white. Get out of here. Another reason why I don't indulge that bs network.

I don't know, CW has about as many black males on their shows as any of the other broadcast networks. And The Flash has a racially swapped Wally West, and the show iZombie has a black male character who wasn't even in the source material.

As someone who HATES when they race-swap characters when they adapt comics into movies or TV shows instead of using actual black/PoC characters from the comics instead, this is annoying. There is already a black women that is part of Josie & the Pussycats named Valarie Brown. In fact, Rosario Dawson played her in the "Josie & the Pussycats" movie from 2001. Why not just use Valarie on this show instead of race-swapping Josie?

There's also a prominent Black Female character named Nancy Woods that friends with Archie & them and dates the brotha Chuck Clayton that they could of used instead.

You're forgetting Isaiah Washington & Michael Beach on "The 100", Charles Michael Davis & Yusuf Gatewood on "The Originals", Franz Drameh on "Legends of Tomorrow", David Gyasi on the upcoming show "Containment", David Ramsey on "Arrow", & Jesse L. Martin on "The Flash". Heck, Mekhi Phifer just got casted last week to Co-Star in The CW's upcoming "Frequency" reboot TV series.

Also, Wally West is black in The New 52 in the comics, so that wasn't a race-swap.

I didn't forget them, I was only pointing out characters who were from adaptations of other source material.

I am also aware of the "new" Wally West, but since Wally was originaly white I consider the tv version a race-swap.

No black guy on the CW gets to have any meaningful role unless it relies on being a back up to a white character.
Diggle always has to say mother may I to Oliver.
Jackson needs Stein to have actual power. The black detective on Izombie is a total throw character who can be replaced by anyone.
The one interesting black character on The 100 had to catch a head shot. All the women of color always seem to have a white male love interest totally ignoring any male of color.
And the absolute saddest thing of all is I don't think it's on purpose. I honestly think in their world black men are great sidekicks but no main men material.
We honestly need our own networks like a 90s BET

The CW is now working on that. Did you see these stories early last month?:

Also The CW had a show with a BM lead back in the spring/summer called "Containment":

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it. But, I have to give them props for Marcel on The Originals. Dude is damn near the best character on there and he's forever smashing hot white girls and stealing them away from the white lead.

Wasn't he fucking Cami for a while?

Yeah, you're right about the sister. I forgot about that. And actually, I'm surprised he's been alive this long. Black male characters don't last long in the Vampire Diaries universe. They're usually killed off in a few episodes after their introduction.

Yeah pretty much. Always there to move a plot point then poof gone. The show is incredibly racist. You don't have to say n****r to show how inferior you think black people are.

I remember reading a rumor on the hater site I like to whine about a 2.5 years ago, that the main Executive producer/Showrunner on TVD & "The Originals" (Julie Plec) is racist:

I think that a black male character will show up later on Riverdale. There hasn't been a black male character when the Archie comics came out in the late 40's. A black male character appeared in the late 80's or sometime in the 90's. But I won't be holding my breath since this is a CW program.

The Black male character I remember from the comics is Chuck Clayton. According to these tweets from December he has been casted for the show:

It looks like he's gonna show up in this week's episode as love interest for Veronica:
