I think the part that you may be missing TDK is that some of us have been disowned for choices we've made and have lost a great deal more than her and had to do all sorts of things to come out of it. I'm not unsympathetic to someone who has to go through it. The issue though is that it's coming from a poor thing that they took her car, phone, and college funds. Again, that sucks and I don't at all agree with what they did and quite frankly they raised her into that situation and decided to change the game plan and she gets to deal with the consequences. Unfortunately, or fortunately, that's a part of life. It happens. Should education be free? sure....but it's not. Should they erase all student debt? Maybe (I'd sure benefit from it if they did!) but it's not likely to happen either. At this point in time, right or wrong higher education is NOT a right in this country....for anyone. Unfortunately (or not) most of us had to work our ass off, put off going to school for some time, go for scholarships, take on debt, you name it to get through....and even with that, most don't make it through. Maybe that's not right. If so then fight like hell to do something to change it. It's your right to throw some money at a girl who's thinking she should get a free ride. Personally, that's just not the cause I'm going to champion.

For me it's a fundamental thing, I believe that if you truly want to do something then you do what it takes to make it happen. And before you go into the whining about how tough it is for her generation, save it. It's not any different than it's been for the rest of us at our times. Part of the American Dream is that you do what it takes, it's not just handed to you. Part of achieving success is the process that you have to go through to get there. That's often the most beneficial part of the education.

And the bottom line is at this point in time in this country, higher education is NOT a right. No matter what anyone's opinion is.

And the way to go about changing that is not for a girl who probably has a much better chance at scholarships (and other funding) than most to do a GoFundMe, or to support that.

Nobody said she had to risk her life. The military is just one option. She has the nerve for wanting people to donate to her sob story when there has been no proof of effort through any other Avenue.

Do you pay for health insurance? Can you pay for it and still think it should be a right? Would you be mad if someone started a gofundme to pay for medical bills?
So even if it's not a right is it wrong to advocate that it should be?

If you read her gofundme page Allie has applied for scholarships, grants, loans and financial aid.
Same shit I had to do to get through college and I had the $20,000+ in debt to pay off to prove it.

Man, I just don't get the resentment directed towards this chick.
    I seriously don't.

She's been forced out of her comfort zone and and had to deal with real world racism up close and in the flesh.
All she's asking for are donations to help her pay for her college tuition. Not buy a new car or pay for a cell phone contract.
Yet the automatic response from Black and White members of WWBM is she's a scam artist and doesn't deserve a cent from anyone because life is hard and she needs to learn how to struggle.

    Memo, she IS struggling.
Does she have to be homeless before folks decide she needs assistance???
    I just don't get it.

Personally I received financial aid when I applied to college from all types of offbeat organizations and groups, with their only criteria that I had been accepted to college and wanted to find a means to pay for my education.

I feel like some of you would respect her more if she had dumped her Black BF and gone along with her parents' agenda and NOT dated outside her race.

Well since she did use those resources, I have no problem then.

Being homeless is not what happened to her though. She still has a place to sleep and food to eat, unless she didn't mention getting kicked out of her home. I wouldn't respect her more of she dumped her bf. The respect comes from the effort being applied, which assuming she is telling the truth, I'll hold nothing against her.

I wouldn't be mad at a medical gofundme because their condition may prevent them from being able to actually work even the most basic of jobs. However, if it was an unhealthy lifestyle that put them there, I could understand hesitating to donate but that's someone's life so depending on the story, I might.

I don't resent her. I'm just simply not moved by her story. The bottom line is that she fell out with her parents, like plenty of other people before her. Her parents would not pay for her college. There are tons of people who didn't get their education paid for by their parents.

    Am I missing something here??

Does the reason even matter considering the fact that her parents don't owe her anything?

She did it for him. I said this before, if you go IR then you need to be aware she's making sacrifices to be with you. Are you ready to make sacrifices too?

He should be taking care of her and having her back.
Uuhh no because she can go to a cheaper college or whatever. She can do a slew of things

Hell TDK you was the one who said you are suspect of ww who date IR late in life and you dismissed the fact that ww make sacrifices so why don't you pay the rent and car note till she graduate

Well I hear you but the way I look at it the only way progress has ever happened is by people saying hey that's wrong let's change it. Minimum wage 40 hour work week voting rights equal protection under the law. Where would any of us be if those before us had the same attitude. Hey struggle is part of life just deal with it stop whining. And I never said anything should be handed to you I just see it as an investment in our future just like elementary and secondary school. And the circumstances are so vastly different now. I really think everyone can't see how hard things are going to be if we don't create a better way to success and living a life of dignity. The circumstances that allowed us to work while in school is disappearing at a dizzying pace that's why I never say simplistic stuff like hey get job get a scholarship. The scholarship pool is much smaller than back in the day not to mention a lot of shit retail service jobs that were available to us to get through school are gone or almost gone or occupied by adults not kids looking for pocket money. Its just not the same anymore. Again it's big reason why progressives lost the election, our smug inability to recognize our circumstances are not everyone's.

She could do that. I also don't know what she is majoring in. Not all Colleges offer the same majors. At the same time, she should be looking at community colleges. She's gonna be taking pre requisite classes anyway. So you're right, she should be looking at cheaper alternatives. Not sure why that didn't even cross my mind when I went to a CC. D'oh!
