Fetal heartbeats are detectible around six weeks, which is well before many women even realize they’re pregnant. That means the bill would effectively ban abortion in the state of Ohio. The law’s backers say the election of Donald Trump—and the promise that he’ll appoint Supreme Court justices friendly to their cause—have empowered them to move forward on the extreme measure. The governor now considering the bill is one-time presidential wannabe John Kasich, who told CNN earlier this year that he is “pro-life with the exceptions of rape, incest and the life of the mother.” Kasich has not said whether he will sign the bill, but when the state House considered a similar bill last year, he indicated he was concerned about its constitutionality. That was an opinion he shared with groups including Ohio Right to Life, which said it could backfire on the anti-abortion movement if a federal judge ends up striking down other abortion restrictions along with the heartbeat law.
Absolutely maddening. This WILL NOT stop abortions, it will only stop safe access to abortion. The closed minded, conservative citizens of this country are truly infuriating. Same thing going on in tx, requiring cremation/burial services for terminated pregnancies. Clinics will absorb the cost, putting many potentially out of business. None of this will stop a woman set on discontinuing an undesired pregnancy, but it will cause women to resort to incredibly unsafe practices. But that's of no concern to conservatives. They're concerned about the unborn, not about the living.
UGH. I remember many many years ago when my aunt had a miscarriage and she was taken to a Catholic hospital and they made a big deal about what to do with the remains (after they had placed them in a bag and attached it to the gurney)....it was extremely traumatic for her. These things are often so much more complicated than people realize.
Oh my goodness, that's terrible I've helped coordinate a few cremations for medically indicated terminations (second trimester fetal demise or fetal abnormality detected mid pregnancy) and it's very difficult. Most funeral homes won't take remains without a death certificate and that isn't something that's provided on a termination (to be a death, it would've had to have been alive). Anyways, after much arguing on patients behalf, I managed to find one funeral home willing to work with me. This is the point of conservatives though... doing whatever they can to inhibit access to safe abortion. I think it's mind boggeling that theyd require those same special efforts, from women suffering natural miscarriage outside their home. Incredibly cruel. This is trumps America though, women aren't qualified to decide what's best for our bodies. Clearly the men in charge know much more about our bodies, our health, our physical/mental/financial abilities to bring a life into this world.
My personal belief is far more scientific than spiritual. I don't believe life begins at conception. When it actually does begin is debatable (within reason), even in my own thoughts about it. Generally speaking, I believe life begins when the fetus would be viable outside the womb.
Forget the question of when does life begin.... I see this already hitting the courts in two ways 1. If a woman is raped, will she be thrown in prison for not wanting the child? 2. If the child dies before birth, is the woman thrown in prison for that?
Yeah the belief on this is going to be varying. I personally believe when the bloods meet. With this in mind ,if I'm not mistaken plan B is to keep the sperm from meeting the egg, prevention is a biggie for me I'll take it one step further. I think planned parenthood needs to be on college campuses to educate them on preventing pregnancy and stds yeah it can get wild
Not sure if you're familiar with Plan B (brand specific)? It can prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the uterine wall, which is why many religious conservatives are against it (the mindset that life begins when sperm meets egg). They feel it's equivalent to an early abortion. There are emergency contraceptive options that won't prevent an already fertilized egg from implanting, it'll just prevent sperm from meeting egg. It's not very effective though and the efficacy decreases with an increased weight of the woman (>154lbs will have decreased efficacy). It is what it is. If there's a slip up, take it. It's certainly not an acceptable form of birth control though. PP and facilities like it do many college education days and we participate in every health/street fair we can. Education and access are paramount.
Congratulations to those too ornery to vote for Clinton. Misery is what you love, more misery for this society is what you get. Satisfied yet? Well don't be. Much more misery to come.
Who the fuck cares? Better question is who has rights to the body of a human being. The human being who is putting herself at risk by carrying the baby or the government? And who the fuck do people think they are that say "well maybe she shouldn't have sex if she didn't want to assume the risk of pregnancy."
Then when they want to go with it's ONLY ok in the case of rape, severe illness/defects, etc. Who decides all that? Most women won't report rape as it is now because of the scrutiny they have to go through.
Uuhhh yes it is a question you need to ask cause it's called a life. If you can decide when someone dies then you need to decide when life began. Also, a lot of people care cause this has been a debate for a long time.
People don't realize that the only way these ideas would be anywhere close being practical is if we lived in a theocracy. You can't let premarital sex be legal and ban abortion at the same time. That's universally stupid. Either we press on to make sure women have rights like equal pay or we regress into the past and re live the days when the church had much more power.
It's not that a lot of people care, it's more like a lot of people are stupid. They are debating an unknown position while ignoring facts. Fact #1. It's her body not yours or the governments.
you don't have to be religious to ask when life began. Look at the article. It said a heartbeat can be detected as soon a six weeks. So is it life when you have heartbeat
If we go by this then it opens all sorts of cans of worms. So then will a woman who is brain dead be placed on lifesupport for up to 7-1/2 months to incubate a fetus (that can not live outside the mother's body)? When does the fetus become more important than the mother? that's really what it comes down to. Forcing a woman to carry a child is not the way to go about things.
The point is no one knows the answer. Let me ask you which planet in the universe (other than earth) has intelligent life on it. It's stupid for me to keep asking or argue which planet it is because no one knows the fucking answer..lmao.
