I spent several months in East Germany. I didn't have any issues at all. Matter of fact, had a lot of fun.

But, that was way back in 93 or 94. Things could have changed since then.

Official statistics show that most racist crimes in Germany last year occurred in the country's eastern-most states and Berlin. A civil society expert says that's no surprise.

The five states which used to be in the German Democratic Republic, plus the capital Berlin, only account for 17 percent of the entire country's population, but last year, 47 percent of all racist violence was reported there, the "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung" reported. The figures cited were provided by the Federal Ministry of the Interior in response to an inquiry by the Green party. Of 130 nationwide violent racist crimes reported, 61 occurred in the east - a whopping 40 percent increase from 2013.

It was the most fitting meme I could find. Most people only go so far as to not give a fuck. Gregg Popovich is actually taking fucks back that he may have previously given out by mistake.

Yep, definitely changed since I was there. The mirror was the only black person I saw for a month. ...lol

Sad. I hate to hear that. It was truly a lovely place and the people where so warm and inviting.

You picked a good one. It'll be interesting to see how his base gets all up in their feelings. I'm convinced most of them are still in celebratory mode (because the black guy is leaving and the woman lost) and haven't realized that Trump is already backtracking.

The part of Pop's speech that I agree with the most is that it really isn't even about red and blue, or even liberal versus conservative. If John Kasich or Jeb Bush would have won then a lot of people opposed to Trump wouldn't even have an issue with the outcome of the election. Yeah, the loss would suck for a few days but then we'd all move on with our lives.

Like Popovich I wouldn't have voted for them but at least there would be someone in office who acts like an adult and not a child, and isn't openly supported by the KKK and the American Nazi Party.

I don't know what's going on there, but I think it's just a few hate groups. Luckly I'm more interested in the western parts anyway. Maybe I'm wrong but I couldn't imagine picking Berlin over Frankfurt. Plus the added bonus of the West being closer to Belgium, Netherlands, and Paris.

When I went I stayed in Wiesbaden. It was amazing and everyone there couldn't have been nicer. It probably is an east/west cultural thing.

Looks like you may have picked a great location. It's less than 40 min from Frankfurt and you probably had a better experience going somewhere less known to tourists.

My sister and brother in law live there and it was great. I got to see Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and a bunch of other places whose names I forget lol. But it is an absolutely beautiful country. Got to go to Paris too but from my experience Germans were much, much nicer.

Nah, I only speak English but so does nearly everyone else. I think of all the people I encountered I can probably say that the number of people who couldn't speak English could be counted on one hand. I had the Google Translate app on my phone but I didn't even really need it at all.

This is true lol. Any store I went into cashiers were going back and forth between German and English like it was nothing. I think it's in part because they start foreign languages here earlier than we do.

    Sweet. English it is. lol

So I can just focus on my French and not worry about German. You probably have to speak some French for the people in France to warm up to you. Just my guess anyway.

All you need to know is "vos de bon hauf" (im sure I'm spelling it wrong) meaning where's the train station.

Make sure you go to the red light district. It's 1block from the train station in Frankfurt. The starter place to go is the green goose ( 30 yrs ago. Lol)

There's an air force Base in Frankfurt....there should be an no, officer or enlisted club to hang out at.

Yep, pretty much. Otherwise they act like you're stupid lol. The French make being condescending look easy.

It was...okay. We stayed in a hotel in an okay part of Paris but the city itself was pretty dirty and the traffic during the day was basically a free for-all. And people apparently do nothing but sit outside of cafes and drink coffee and smoke cigarettes all day lol.

We also went to Disneyland Paris, which was a lot more fun that I expected (and not actually in Paris). Between the two countries though, I definitely liked Germany better and if I could only visit one of them again I'd pick Germany in a heartbeat.
