Is there really more of it now than ever?

Personally I can't remember a time when people were not declaring that americans are "more racially divided than ever"... That's a common refrain...

But as long as I've been aware, americans have been racially divided to some extent, so, imho, there's nothing special about these days.

...In fact, I'm inclined to say that we're less racially divided than when I was younger.

    What do you think?

And for those of you who are particularly into "interracial" -- how has today's supposedly "tense" socio-political atmosphere affected your relationships? ... your dating prospects? ...your preference for IR?

And if you've ever experienced a particularly tense racial climate, do you find ww (or bm if you're female) more attractive during times of "tension"?

... or less attractive? ... or no difference?

I think it's always been bad and that there isn't anything particularly horrible about the present day. If anything, maybe it's being expressed more openly, but I think it has always been there.

The only racial tension acceptable is that between sheets tension.

My limited sexual experience only shows that I enjoy being a giver. No pain, just pleasure and sensuality.

I know that it takes time before any real action.

I don't get a lot of friends with benefits(none at all, these days).

Yeah, I agree. Race relations on a personal level are IMO good.

The real tensions in America are economic and the fact that millions of Americans are finally getting 'woke' and realizing our political and economic systems are rigged to benefit those at the very top.

Real racists don't even associate with people not like them
Kids today I think are more racially tolerant and accepting than any other generation.

When people drop the line that we as a country are more racially divided than ever, what they're really trying to do is smear Obama and change the subject from what the real economic problems are.

Too much money in this country flows straight to the top and everyone else is left with crumbs.

    That's simply not sustainable.

Racial tensions were highest when you could get lynched for breathing a white person's air.

New week, another unarmed BM killed, another protest, etc. Wash rinse and repeat. Ever since Trayvon Martin that's been what the news has used to get ratings, gotta throw in "high racial tensions" to make things sound even more interesting.

And as for ir during high racial tensions, I don't think nowadays compares to trying to date WW during the OJ trial.

There's nothing wrong with that if that's what you like that's what you like. You'll find someone. Keep the faith.

Lol ... no it most definitely isn't. I was born in the late 60's and grew up in the 70's and 80's. Getting called "nigger" on your way to school or to the store was just another Tuesday. Interracial dating could get your ass beat or worse depending on where you were. There's so much more I could go on about ...

Trust me, things are a whole, hellavu' lot better.

I feel gross though, Trump was directed to respond to Anderson Cooper about his sex tapes during the second debate. And now that's out in the open and everyone's business.

Having been born in the 80s, growing up really in the 90s, I can't say that I've been exposed (even as an outsider looking in) to what you describe. To me (maybe in part because of that?) racial tension and divide does seem worse than before. Im a born and raised southern Californian which has likely given me a false sense of security with regard to the level of racism in this country. It seems like it's open season on bm, much more so than I've seen before. We have a presidential candidate who not only welcomes that racial divide but he incites hatred and violence between Americans. I see African Americans literally pleading with this country to acknowledge that black lives matter, while white people band together shouting ALL lives matter, in a constant effort to minimize any movement that attempts to raise awareness to racial inequality and injustice in this country. I firmly believe Trumps campaign has given a certain power to racists in this country, not only in openly allowing/accepting hate and discrimination but truly inciting it. As a ww who has only ever dated interracially, times feel much more tense and divided now. Admittedly it may just be that the ugliness isn't hidden anymore, people feel encouraged and entitled to discuss their ignorant ways of thinking because afterall, this is a white man's world so who's going to stop them?? It feels like we're struggling to even gain traction at times in the fight for equality, let alone trying not to succumb completely to the slippery slope we're on.

Good lord that's a pessimistic post from this optimistic girl :(

Goodlove, for reference sake, this is me disagreeing with the men here :p

It took me awhile to see it but it started with Treyvon Martin for me. People I knew my whole life plain sided with Zimmerman off of GP. No matter the evidence it basically came down to some latent fear they had of black people in the dark. They were literally incapable of seeing this kid as a victim. Even after everything we now know about crazy ass Zimmerman you still hear bs arguments like "since when is it illegal to follow someone"
If that had been their 17 year old kid being followed by me with a loaded weapon no matter how break ins had happened in the area no one would want to hear it.

It's tough for people like us because we literally spent our formative years in liberal areas during the hip hop hay day era where being black was the coolest thing there was. Everything was far more inclusive, my dorky nerdy Carlton acting ass got so many white girls all because I was black and worked at a music store.

I don't know if this is just what adulthood is, never ending fear mongering and desperation smh.
