Any one or anyone you know, in its eye? I have a friend right in the middle of its path. Prayers for those dealing with this imminent catastrophe.. "Thousands stuck in gridlock across the East Coast as two million are told to flee deadly Hurricane Matthew after it kills 140 and prepares to hit Florida TODAY - as Obama declares state of emergency"
Having been through Hurricane Katrina and Wilma and a tropical storm named Gordon(I was working in a beachside condo resort overnight), the eye of the storm is tricky as it is quiet for the moment. I recall seeing transformers explode. One right after the other. When the other side came, it becomes a lot more intense. After the storm is over, it will take a few days before power can be restored. Even then, martial law is declared and curfews are in place to prevent looting. That's just one of the things that I hate about living in Florida. If one is looking for paradise, the only thing that one gets for free is the weather and orange juice is very expensive.
I'm watching CNN and they showed a webcam with people on the beach (and even in the water!) in Daytona....are they looking for a Darwin Award or what?
It's not unusual for the extreme daredevil to try something in conditions such as these. Surfers, wake boarders and kite and wind surfers will try something to give them that thrill. To ride the wild surf. I had to come in to work last night. I was surprised that including myself, only five were present at work. Five people to clean and prepare for the opening at seven in the morning. Thankfully, Matthew didn't give us a whole lot here. The humidity was lowered a bit. This season is far from over.
Yeah I read about people getting in the water trying to surf. These will be the ones driving up the healtcare costs due to their stupidity.
Beasty..so you had to evacuate? What was that like...how is your property so far? Gorath..were you in its path originally?
I might have a little understanding if they were surfers but the people I saw on webcam were a couple with a dog and a young girl in her bikini.
Be careful everyone, lets hope Fox news is not right about this storm....
Matthew's path? We got the wind and rain. Here in Homestead, hurricanes after Hurricane Andrew are often preparing for disaster. Homes, apartments and businesses being constructed, had to pass strict inspections. Homestead is pretty much on a path of a hurricane if it is in the cone.
The sea has an amazing power. The high waves crashing on the beach is something to see. During those times, there are a lot of rip currents so that, too, is also dangerous.
Ah, got it. Well it looks like (thankfully) it's not as bad as predicted so far? Travelers in the southern part of the state did wake up to good news on Friday as airports began to open their doors and flights got back on the departures board. But operations remained shut in much of the central and northeastern parts of the state as residents continue to wait and see if Matthew will make landfall.
