Actually I like The Punisher way more.
As far as other heroes my favorite will always be Goku
Doesn't mess with every day folk while living in an ivory tower he keeps it to global threats.
Batman sucks because he can do far more for Gotham with job programs and soup kitchens than just going around bearing the shit out of poor people who turned to crime because the economy is bad there.
Superman is another one. He doesn't have to eat or worry about shelter not getting sick none of it. Yet he gets to judge human beings? Based on What? Values he never had to apply himself. He's never had to steal to survive his life has never been in danger. What does he know of fear or insecurity. Just another pompous jack ass with a God complex telling others how to live when he never had to practice what he preaches.

Damn good post, not to mention Goku suits you as an martial artist. I can dig it.

Somebody needs to give reason as to why they like superman, He is a piece of shit.

Thanks. Goku was the first time I ever saw a hero bleed and work their ass off for their power. It wasn't something bestowed and then somehow they knew how to use their powers perfectly
He also didn't suffer from a superiority complex.
Just a big kid who wanted to defend the helpless.

As I get older I totally get why the villains hated the heros so much. Always some dick bag in costume telling me how to live when they can afford millions of dollars of equipment so obviously my problems aren't your problems or better yet someone who is essentially a damn God.
I rewatch Batman wishing Bane and the Joker won.

Kal-El, as Jerome Seigel and Joe Shuster gave Superman's Kryptonian name from an ancient Hebrew name meaning "All that God is."
I don't think that Superman ever had a God complex except when it was for the good of everyone involved. He might judge a person from their own deeds but he doesn't pass judgement on anyone. Superman is very well aware that there are forces out in space and perhaps on Earth that could kill him(remember Darksied and Doomsday or anyone who has some Kryptonite in their possession).

Superman set the standard for many superheroes and he leads by example. Like everyone else, he has his problems; magic, inability to see through lead, taking a life, protecting the lives of those closest to him, mind control, etc. All the other superheroes are faced with almost the same issues after realizing and using their abilities.

Frank Castle, The Punisher is a very extreme example of the Warrior Class. Well trained and very well armed. His motivation is to kill all wrong doers and will let nothing and no one get in his way.

As for Dragon Ball Z's Goku, I guess he's an episodeextremely powerful being. However, I never got into Dragon Ball Z. But I will take your word for it.

Good post Gorath. He still sucks but I don't know if anyone else could defend him better.

Where are you at on Batman Samson? After all he is a spoiled judgemental brat. I have to admit that I like him less now.

    Samson you hiding?

Well that figures, after all Batman is a coward. Lol

In short, Goku is pretty much the typical one-dimensional character from Japanese media who lacks the ability to outsmart his opponents in combat. At least with Dragonball, as a child, he actually served more of a significant purpose of wanting to learn and his fighting prowess reflects that. But, with the addition of him expanding his story into being an alien from another planet, where they could be synonymous of homosexual erectus, his character was less of a character that people could really relate to, even with his strong tenacity to become the best.

He is extremely powerful, especially with the recent (and fairly decent) Dragon Ball Super, thanks to his "god" level form, but still lacking any real sense of character development.

And you'd be correct. Superman, like many Western comic superheroes, do serve more as a symbol of something deep that we all should strive to become. With Superman, it's hope. He's pretty much the primus inter pares and a lot of people do revere him, despite being an all-powerful being who has actually broken through his own limitations. He's not about becoming the best, but rather, his story is a god trying to live amongst men. That and find a balance between home vs. heritage, what his fosters parents taught him a sense of morality, and his Kryptonian family via holographic imagery and how he should be able to use his powers for good.

A lot of naysayers often come off as sophomoric for their disdain for old school heroes like that and would often go to characters that are generally flawed and relate-able, like the Marvel comics characters, where their world is crippled with problems, while they struggle with their own demons and how to live in a world of chaos while finding a sense of purpose with their abilities and skills. The Punisher serves as a reminder as to sometimes justice have to be enacted if the authorities cannot do it.

Batman is human. He uses all that he has learned to aid him in his lonely fight against evil. Like it was said in Red Tails, "Experience is a hell of a teacher. It gives the exam first, then the lesson."
For Bruce Wayne, this quote is applicable.

Courage, intelligence, resilience and endurance are Bruce Wayne/Batman's greatest strengths.
    He is his own man.

But he's a man who claims to love Gotham so much but does little to actually help. He has billions and on a multinational company behind him. Invest in schools instead of spending millions on gadgets to run around behind the penguin and joker. Give people opportunity there will be a lot less crime. It seems like he never got pass the trauma of losing his parents so every criminal is an attempt to relive the situation and change the outcome. Which is why he recruits children who went through the same thing. Instead of therapy he trains them to be soldiers in a never ending war because in a depressed city there is never a shortage of criminals.

Interesting post, but I question your understanding of Superman (this will be long enough without addressing Batman and Goku lol). Anyway, Superman specifically ISN'T judgmental of human beings.

And he absolutely DOES apply himself, or he couldn't be the hero that he is. That's like arguing that Michael Jordan didn't have to apply himself because he had natural gifts. His natural gifts only helped him be truly great AFTER he got the character and work ethic to match.

One of the biggest complaints about the current movie depiction of Superman is that he's less hopeful and inspirational. That's because the core of Superman DOES practice what he preaches. Maybe his greatest superpower is that he's got the power to take over but he chooses not to. He prefers to inspire people to be better, not force them to do as he says.

And they call him the Big Blue Boy Scout for a reason. It actually doesn't get much less pompous than Superman. Also, if you believe he's never been in danger or felt fear, you clearly aren't the comic fan that I am lol.

Okay, the nerd out is over lol! This is an interesting conversation. Thanks for sharing your view.

Wow you're reading a lot into those stories. I don't notice the same subtext. Typically, the villain hates the hero simply because they're in their way. And if you're a super criminal, you don't get to use poverty as an excuse. The Justice League doesn't bust a lot of guys who are just stealing to feed their families.

Besides, plenty of superheroes have middle class paychecks or less:
    Spider-Man
    Superman
    Spawn
    Wolverine
Green Lantern (Jordan and Stewart at least)
    Luke Cage
    Jessica Jones
    ...you get the point.

Allow me to retort. My thing is it's easy for him to be moral and not commit crime because under no circumstance does he have to. He doesn't need sleep food or shelter so who is he to judge people that do? He can never fully understand or empathize with people who rob because he has no real use for money outside of keeping up a secret identity (which is useless in today's world)
People who are inspired by him are usually naive fools in the same way people worship celebrities, we live totally different realities.
Which is why I like Goku better only steps up when there is a threat that the regular forces of the world can do nothing against otherwise he's training. Another reason Superman sucks as a hero to me, he never earned his power it was bestowed an accident of birth, another reason why the Jordan analogy doesn't work, so again how does he relate to or even understand man?
Everything is academic not empathetic with him. It's easy to be a boy scout when life doesn't present you with the same challenges as the people you police. It's like a wealthy guy complaining about people on welfare hey dead beat get a job, as if that guy has ever had to get a job to survive in this world. Like I said totally pompous.

I never had a problem with any of those except for Superman and I wasn't talking about the League because as a unit they only confront global threats. It's individual members like Batman and Superman who exact moral superiority without having to really walk the walk. What does Bruce Wayne know of living in bad areas with limited resources and feeling like crime is the only way to feed himself. He just broods with a glass of scotch in a dark room in his vast mansion with a servant. Like I said help Gotham by creating jobs billionaire.

Since you're not feeling Batman, have you checked out Marvel's current Nighthawk series? It's been getting a lot of black fan & critic acclaim, but sales are shit. Might be up your alley.

Same here, it took so many years for me to realize this especially with all the recent superhero movies and comics that have come out is this dude knows know struggle at all. He is the ultimate white supremicist archetype. Powers bestowed upon him at birth that just makes him better than everyone and wants to dictate the lives of others just sitting in judgement waiting to remove people off the playing board as he sees fit. Not to mention his most dangerous foes are guys with dark skin and a lot of brute force who just want to cause destruction because they are innately destructive.
