Bookworm (and to other participants), it seems to me the problem here is that human life isn't really of much worth for anyone at all here and to some extent other countries like Brazil, Russia, etcedera, have the same problem. It isn't valued, and this mindset comes from everyone. I can make up several different names due to violence here and really we need a whole bunch of movements happening at once including: #Blacklivesmatter #Latinolivesmatter #Womenslivesmatter #Whitelivesmatter #Bluelivesmatter #Asianlivesmatter #Dogslivesmatter https://puppycidedb.com/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/PUPPYCIDE/ Roughly 30 dogs / daily, some of which are rescue dogs are shot by police.
IMO it's the gist of Paniro's recent posts. Black people are the only ones according to him who protest police violence and somehow that's unfair to (White)police. I have a problem with Paniro questioning why there isn't more focus on the threat a Black person faces from someone else Black instead of going after a corrupt law enforcement system. IMO you must have forgotten Paniro's standard operating procedure, Bliss. For instance, if both you and Paniro are among a handful of the more conservative/libertarian leaning members on this board, YOU are a helluva lot more nuanced and well thought out in your opinions. Paniro is a hit-and-run poster on this board and often would throw some rhetorical shit on the wall IMO for giggles then go hide. If BLM was only protesting about Black cops using excessive force against Black suspects, he would have absolutely no problem with it. The problem is the SYSTEM, not specifically the cops. As a contrast, in D.C. occasionally there are stories about federal employees getting caught for embezzling money from their departmental budgets. It doesn't matter who the criminal is, they can be a high level director or a random bank teller at a federal credit union, in every case those jokers get prosecuted and sent to prison. Oftentimes the FBI will build a case against a federal employee then one day unannounced show up where they work, slap on the handcuffs and 'disappear' that fool. That's called accountability and being held responsible for your own illegal behavior. The feds don't protect bad apples, unless that apple is very high up at the top of the tree(I was thinking the Bushies and the Iraq War:smt083). But think how hard it is to send a bad cop to jail. Even when there IS evidence of criminal wrong doing. If the culture changed in national law enforcement, police brutality would end almost overnight. By culture change I mean judges and district attorneys actually arresting and convicting bad cops more often than not. Keeping one bad cop around taints an entire police precinct and lessens the respect most people have for their officers or the profession. The arguments I hear defending cops are similar to the ones I used to hear about Catholic priests. At what point do we as citizens say....ENOUGH?? Rogue cops who think they're judge, jury and executioner on the streets need to be taken down and put where they belong with the other convicts behind bars.
I don't think anyone with a judicious mind disagrees with you (Paniro likely included.) Police are held to a higher standard... However keep the job in mind too. They are commanded to run towards the gun fire, the violence and the criminal/s. I honestly don't think it's that simple to surmise that if bad cops were prosecuted, police brutality would stop..that's like saying if guns were banned, there would be no more people shot. Tense situations often produce negative results. I think with all your logic, you wouldn't survive as a cop. I just heard an interview of a police widow who's husband repeatedly asked the civilian to shown his hands (5 times). The guy shot the officer dead. He hesitated, gave him chances, and died for it. It goes both ways. I have watched videos where a traffic cop just approaching a car is shot dead, or shot at. What's the solution AB?... Two segments of Society that are prone to clashing... Convictions in-and-of themselves won't solve it, though l completely understand your anger when clear criminal behaviour walks. I promise you, I GET IT.
My feeling there is... Police officers take the job at their own free will and knowing of the inherent danger. Firefighters also have an incredibly dangerous job, but society doesn't give them the ultimate benefit of the doubt that many give police officers. I'd agree that accountability won't magically stop the unlawful behavior, but accountability itself can be a very powerful tool. If they know that they're likely to be in trouble, lose jobs/pension and so on... I bet a lot of police officers would choose to fly right.
To your last comment, I'm sure you know the saying, "better to be judged by 12..." (l know, l know, with grand juries hand-sitting, the 12 are barely summoned)..Still...in the moment of fire, l doubt they are thinking of losing pensions. Your first comment is interesting in that you noted they are aware of the inherent danger. So how does a police officer reconcile that with the alternate expectation that they treat people as non-dangerous? I was told a long time ago in Australia by a lawyer that police believe everyone but them belong in jail..aka every one is a criminal except them. And l really resented that mentality (of the police). (Police misconduct is non-racial in Australia...we all cop an earful from cops.) I read an interesting passage a while back on Wikki why cops repeatedly fail to be indicted from an employment POV..Will look for it so l don't misquote. Btw, Firefighters have a complete different threat.. when are they not lauded as heroes, even when they fail to rescue someone?

By the Chicago Tribune’s count, more than 2,500 people have become shooting victims this year. That’s up more than 800 from this time last year. At least nine people were killed on Monday alone, making it the deadliest day in Chicago in 13 years. Among the wounded that day was a 10-year-old boy shot while playing on his front porch. Fix the unemployment and poverty and watch that number virtually disappear. When people are put to work and their needs are being met its amazing how there's next to no violence.
[sarcasm font]Yeah that's what it is. [/sarcasm font] Oh and illegal aliens you coddle and hanging on to some of those jobs you say that are needed.
Ok let's play this bs game again. For every job there are 3 applicants usually so tell me once every job is filled what happens to the other 2 people and their families? And I don't coddle illegal aliens but I get their plight. Would you stay in a place where there is no employment and rampant violence with no end in sight?
i def understand their plight but if do the crime you do the time. It's still breaking the law no matter how "down bad" you are
Is it really that black and white for You? Run away slaves deserved to die it was the law after all Dating ww was against the law guess everyone who died for looking at a ww deserved it huh Smh
I'm not going to protest it. I'm also not criticizing activist groups and suggesting that they protest it.
They aren't slaves in their country. Good try though. Go ahead an keep fighting for them I guarantee you if the largest part of the illegal problem was black folks those same Hispanics would be protesting for you to take your black ass home. Keep on riding with you until they tell you to get out the car.
The gun violence epidemic is relentless and needs to end now. Chicago's gang problem has metastasized and should be treated as the social and public health problem it is, rather than with the endless "build more prisons" approach.
By regulating gun manufacturers. But we both know that in this current climate, it is easer to justify police killing pre-teens than it is to pass gun regulation.
