Come on TDK - each person discussing this has acknowledged Colorism exists. Several have spoken to it in detail too.

No not really when all you make it akin to just someone whining about something that doesn't really exist or that it's really not privilege since at the end of the day someone else has power of you. Again literally how all oppression and privilege works but like most privilege those who have it or don't have to deal with it think its just plain old complaining.

You keep acting like terminology doesn't matter. Which would you prefer 50% of revenue or 50% of profit? Privilege has meaning in general and in court, just like "profit" and "revenue" has meaning in business keep playing dumb.

You might as well say steph curry is famous cause he is light skinned

Ricardo is a hatemonger period. Giving him any cred is on the same level as Donald trump

TDK, you don't have a traditional Black experience because you're the son of Black immigrants.

You don't 'know' America like I and my family do.

This shit isn't theoretical to me.
My blood is from the South and we KNOW how color works in both the Black AND White community.

You talk that light skin privilege in Mississippi or Arkansas and you might get punched in the mouth...by another Black person.

I know too many light skinned aunts, cousins and friends of family who were told to 'fall back nigger' to actually believe they had some step up in life,(outside of the Black community) because they were light skinned negroes.

Your Black roots in this country are limited and based primarily on what you choose to embrace and BELIEVE IN.

You're not really deep into the traditional Black experience IMO because it's not your family experience, at least not on the same level.

You constantly rant about shit you have never experienced, or seen first hand.

Or have been told about by close friends and loved ones.
Do you have more than 10 blood family members in this country??

How the fuck you gonna tell me I don't know about the role color plays in the Black community and White culture in general??lol

What I do know is 'privileged' light skinned Blacks like Eartha Kitt and Harry Belafonte had their careers destroyed in the 1960s for speaking out against the Vietnam War and for Civil Rights, respectively.

A light skinned Black man named Muhammad Ali had the prime of his career taken away because he was a conscientious objector to the Vietnam War.

And another light skinned brotha by the name of Malcolm X was under surveillance by the FBI who may have played a role in his death.

I know that light skinned Blacks still had to peel potatoes and do menial tasks instead of actually fighting during WW2, that light skinned Blacks still were forced to go to segregated schools and light skinned brothas were still the ones sent to die on the front lines in Vietnam.

I know this because this is a part of my FAMILY experience.
Not some abstract shit I decided I wanted to be true.

I feel like you drop these odd off the wall theories from who knows where and pretend like it's status quo for EVERY Black person, because it's what you choose to believe.

And who the hell is talking about Hispanics and Asians??
    Stick to the topic.

What industry in this country dominated by White decision makers is full of light skinned Black folk??

    You're just wrong on this.

If Jesse Williams had a boost in his career from being light skinned, it was mostly because his producers either didn't know he was Black at first, or preferred to cast someone who wasn't obviously Black.

It wasn't a choice for a role that he won over a Black actor because he was lighter.

In fact Jesse Williams' career has been hindered by his biracial background because he's not really Black OR White enough for some directors.

The brotha is stuck on TV and can't get choice movie roles.

    But he's so light skinned:lol:.......GTFOH.

BTW check who you're calling ignorant.

You're subtle ad hominem attacks aren't so subtle and show just how petty you really are.

    Well damn.
I showed him this and his reaction.

    Just food for thought.

The ugly truth that TDK isn't connecting is that color preference among Black folk is more an issue in THE BLACK COMMUNITY and not White society in general.

If Blacks are deciding whom to choose among other Blacks, you can be damn sure pigmentation will play a role, mainly for women.

But when it comes to White people deciding among Black folk who to hire, etc., for the most part they lump us all together.

TDK's true cultural experience is from Jamaica where there is more pronounced colorism because it's a BLACK nation.

But it doesn't work like that in the United States, because Blacks aren't the dominant culture.

He shouldn't have had to apologize. There's nothing wrong with him feeling inspired by a speech even if he isn't apart of the group it is directed towards.

At what point does artistic inspiration become cultural appropriation???

You realize you're arguing indirectly that no one can perform soul music and R&B other than Black people.

Cultural appropriation to me means when someone not of a specific culture is given credit and accolades for 'inventing' an artform when in reality they borrowed from its originators.

As long as an artist gives proper respect for those who came before them, IMO that's not cultural appropriation.

To me it is also those who use it just to make money and fame off of it, and really know nothing about it or those who like everything about the culture except the people. I'm sure their are entertainers of all races that are like that, but I don't see JT as one.

As I have said before the media plays a BIGGER role in this than the entertainers because they are the ones that will mostly give credit to a white entertainer that has or is doing the same thing that a entertainer of color has done.
