MeetUp Groups

I enjoy being a member of this site (most of the time, lol). I speak with 3 men and 1 woman, all of whom I've come to consider good friends and hope we always will be. The problem is these people all live far away so its virtually impossible to ever meet. I'm recently single so I am not in any rush to hook up with any one person. However, I would love to get out and simply meet people (in person). So far, I have no interest in on line dating. I've heard good things about MeetUp groups. Don't know how popular they are everywhere, but here there are literally thousands of groups. Seems like a good way to meet people who share common interests. I am disappointed that out of all of these groups, there isn't one for people interested in IR dating. I'm thinking of starting one. Anyway, I just thought I'd share this idea with everyone in case some of you, too, are looking to expand your social life (not just dating). I'd be interested to know if any of you have ever joined a MeetUp group and what you thought about it.

 

I'm a member of 2 MeetUp groups (and used to manage one). I have gone to a few of the events (before meeting my boyfriend). I'm still a member but don't go to any of the events anymore. They best thing you can do is scope out the groups, look at past events (& pictures if they have any), then decide if it's a group you would be comfortable hanging out with.

 

Never heard of them here, unless they have a motive behind it, ie singles night, darts night, crafting circle and that kind of thing.

Sounds like a good idea to me, if there was one here and I had the time, I would go.
I try to stay connected to my community by doing things like being a member on a residents board panel and up until recently a school governor, which I will do again if I'm feeling up to it.

Never done a meet up group, but it sounds like a nice idea if you're just looking to meet some new, like-minded people. If I had the time, and was single, I'd probably participate in one!

I think there are a few people here from FL, how cool would it be for you to meet up with some of them (orejon comes to mind)! I've met a few people from this site...we don't have a lot from SD, but there's a couple It's fun putting a face with the name/online persona.

The meetup groups in Pittsburgh is full of unattractive lames. Week in and week out I scope out the Meetups here but they just seem so corny. I've only been to one meetup myself. I was creating an IR meet up group in the summer but Meetup.com wanted $140.

 

I was a member of two at one time, and I still keep in touch with some members from one of the groups. It's a great way to meet people in a new area who may have a lot in common with you, and I've come across some really cool people who I wouldn't have met otherwise.

 

Cool. That's what I'm hoping for. Just meeting new people. I'd love that.

 

Sadly there's not really anyone here who lives near me. We have golf here. Everyone loves golf!*

I've seen groups for every kind of interest, from board games to bowling to running to skydiving. I was actually a member of the skydiving group for a while but they always had meetups during the weekday. It's great to meet new people but it's also great to be able to pay bills and live indoors.

 

I was a member of a IR website and we had offline gatherings every once in a while. There were at least two or three offline gatherings a year in many cities. The owner of that site sold the site and it was no more. I had been to two of these gatherings. These two were in Orlando, Florida and I had a good time at both of them. They had one in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, St. Paul, Minnesota, and others. I think it would be nice if we can have an offline gathering, or if any member was in the area, stopping by to say hello in the flesh would be great. I have never heard of this site.

 

I know this is an old one, but is this something folks would be interested in doing? I am keeping in mind that WWBM isn't the place it used to be. Just thought I'd put it out there as I think it could be fun.

 

I say that if you happen to be in the area and have some time, stop by and say hello. I visit Ft. Lauderdale once or twice a month. I sometimes pass through North Miami.
I would like to meet up with members one of these days.

 

I'm in a couple Meetup groups.

One is a homeschooling group for my kids. It's VERY active with several events every week.

The other is a women's group for ladies in my area. Some are single, some are married. We get together about once a month and go to lunch, movies, etc.

I've been in a couple of others along the way.

 

I will make a point of making mention whenever I'm travelling. I was down your way last December, Chicago last fall, and Toronto in March. A trip to CA will likely happen this summer or fall. At any given time I'm often in Boston, NYC, Philly and of course I live just outside of DC. I think it would be great to meet some of you.

I'm betting Sacramento is probably not high on your list of places to visit out here. If you hit SF (Oakland airport is a better way to go) I could meet you in the bay. Not sure who else is up this way. I think GF might be.

Everyone else seems to be in LA/SD area and that's a good 6-8 hours away.

 

Yes, I was in San Diego last year. I am due for another LA trip, as well as the Bay area. In fact, SF, and SD are my favorite places in Cali. I think FG is now in Philly. I like to come out west at least once per year. I may need to put the Bay area on the fast tracks

 

I'm coming out next year 100%. We are going to throw a party and you're all invited!!! Hahah!! Let's seriously do it!!
