Here is the trailer for the Ghostbusters reboot. I'm gonna get this out of the way.......I don't have any issue with an all female reboot. But I have a bone to pick with one very LOUD and STEREOTYPICAL aspect of this trailer.
A Girl Power version of Ghostbusters...cool. Do you think this movie has a better chance to do big box office in the summer or closer to Halloween?? With the main cast member being mostly from SNL, it seems like one long Saturday Night Live skit. Back in the day I don't know if an all girl cast could carry a sci fi type movie because I don't know if the target demographic of teen to 20something men women would go see it. But nowadays there are SO many females into gaming and comic books, there should be an audience for this flick even if young men aren't drawn by the cast. It's funny because there's a huge population of young kids who never saw the first Ghostbusters movies and don't have a clue what this flick is about. When the first Ghostbusters came out there wasn't an oversaturation of fake paranormal shows on cable TV. I wonder if people's cynical attitude towards those shows will impact how many people are interested in seeing this movie.
I think this is going to flop. I liked the effects but didn't see much comedy excluding the end with the slaps.
The first Ghostbusters that I remember seeing was the Filmation version with Forrest Tucker and Larry Stitch(both from F-Troop). When the animated versions came out, The Real Ghostbusters won out. I mean, you had Lorenzo Music as the voice of Peter Venkman and Arsenio Hall as Winston Zedemore. I remember that there was a sequel planned that involved the he children of the Ghostbusters. But it was in the second installment of The Real Ghostbusters and Egon Spengler leading a younger team against the things that go bump in the night.
I think the attraction is mainly going to be about Ghsotbusters being not only rebooted but with a historical female cast. They will probably try to play off the success women in film and TV have been having. Not too mention like I said I am big fans of two the women in this. Fans of specific stars will bring them the show.
Harold Ramos is no longer with us. God rest his soul. He co-written the screenplay. And there were two players, each from a comedy troupe. Saturday Night Live (Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd) and the Second City(Harold Ramis and Rick Moranis). Melissa McCarthy is not a dyke. Neither are the other women in the cast. And I have noticed that the black female member isn't a scientist. It was not revealed in the original Ghostbusters that Winston, played by Ernie Hudson, was a Vietnam vet. Winston wasn't a scientist, but because he fought in the Vietnam war, he was quite brave. Worthy of note- the scene in which Slimer makes his appearance, was inspired by the late John Belushi's portrayal of Blotto Blutarski of Animal House
In the original script Ernie Hudson's character was supposed to be a Air Force Major. He wrote about how disappointed he was when they down played his characters role just before the filming began. As for the Black women not being a scientist in the reboot, it is getting a lot of brothers and sisters on the internet upset. http://www.inquisitr.com/2851130/ghostbusters-is-a-disgrace-and-its-not-because-of-the-all-female-cast-opinion/
