To appease the anti-ir majority audience

Or that it is written to suggest but not show anything romantic between a black man and a white woman. It has happened with the film Murder At 1600.

Film Industry is either slowly catching up with T.V. or (purposely)taking steps backwards.

I don't think that the idea is to tease. Perhaps show the audience that these characters care about one another. A kiss or a sex scene might throw the momentum off the story. And then there is the input of the test audience.

A kissing, maybe a sex/love scene would be appropriate if the filmmakers are presenting the audience scenes of attraction towards one another in the relationship

I think that the test audience can make a final call. It is a known fact. Many test audiences are surveyed about everything they saw. This determines whether or not the scene is saved in the film or on the cutting room floor.

The film Virus had a kissing scene between Jaime Lee Curtis and Billy Baldwin. It was cut from the film because the test audience felt that it was inappropriate.

Other than the test audience, there is the studio . They, too, have a say. Many top directors were under a lot of scrutiny and pressure. Danny DeVito had to fight to use the death scene in the film The War Of The Roses. The honchos felt that the scene was too unsettling because it was a very disturbing film altogether. But he got his way.

I believe that the writer(s) are a major part of the process because they create the characters and their relationships. Depending upon the setting and scenario, the characters write themselves.

The Lazarus Effect had the opposite phenomenon. Olivia Wilde did not kiss her husband in the movie, Mark Duplass, but did kiss Donald Glover in a weird seduction scene. I wonder what the politics behind that decision was.

    Was it a deleted scene?

No, I saw the film and it was in there. Donald Glover's character was into Olivia's and she kind of knew it being passive and it showed in the scenes.

Yeah I know that, what I'm talking about is when there is obvious attraction there in the scene(s) even the main audiences would realize they're going to get together, there is something there, ect. That is when real life hits the film or show, when art imitates life. In real life multiple instinces of attraction leads to something intimate. It's all about choosing the right time and scene to display it, like it is inapropriate when they have kissing and even sex scenes in the middle of a disaster happening like in those b-Level action and horror movies.

Just watched the movie "Secret in Their Eyes" starring Chiwetel Ejiofor & Nicole Kidman, last night.

This might be the first time I ever watched a movie where the Male & Female leads who are also each other Love Interests, never get together. Not only do they never get together, they never kiss/makeout. Only a goodbye kiss on the cheek.

What makes it worse is that Chiwetel Ejiofor & Nicole Kidman's romantic chemistry is a big part of the movie (both in the current time & in the flashbacks). It'd been fine if their romantic interests in each other had only been subtle, but it wasn't. It was a big part of the movie.

The whole thing about Nicole Kidman being engaged/married just seems like it was thrown in after the movie was shot to avoid Chiwetel & Nicole getting together onscreen. I'm especially suspicious this is the case after see that their makeout scene was cut out of the movie.

I've mentioned that many months back. The Secret of Their Eyes was one disappointing flick.

It's like many people pushing for diversity in film say, The film industry still have a long way to go. But with Mainstream Actresses like Margot Robbie, Naomi Watts, Jennifer Connelly, and a couple Films with an Interracial bm/ww coupling coming out this year (i don't know how many exactly.) It seems to be coming.

You are going to get filmmakers steering away from it like the "secret in their eyes" filmmakers here and there. But as long as it's coming like the buzz around "A United Kingdom" is that it's getting oscar buzz. If that features kissing scene(s) that could be a big jump.

I understand and have sympathy for the overall disappointment in these films and the possible socio-political factors (clears throat: Racism) that play into how scenes are edited, but we also have to allow for filmmakers to make their choices. I saw "the secrets in their eyes" and sometimes holding off on the physical expression of attraction heightens the tension (and this film being a thriller needs to maintain that). I thought these characters had made decisions in their lives to live cloistered and unrequited. It didn't bother me terribly, but I get your point.

What recent recent movies has Naomi Watts been in where she was involved in IR?

Good question. I have never seen Naomi Watts in an IR . The closest was the lesbian love scene with Laura Elena Herring in Mulholland Drive.

I saw that flick and what I'm disapointed was the child will never know the brother's birth family.

The movie called The Unseen had an IR relationship of sorts. The guy ended up kissing the girl in the end, but their relationship was more of a side story. Not a big focus, but she put forth strong emotions toward the male character. Female was played by Catherine Dent.
