Loving V. Virginia Interracial Drama Picked Up 02.14.2016 Link Focus Features has bought the interracial drama Loving, starring Joe Edgerton, Ruth Negga and Michael Shannon, for North American and most major international territories including the U.K., Germany and Latin America. The deal was for nearly $9 million and was announced at the Berlin Film Festival. It’s inspired by Nancy Buirski’s Emmy Award-winning documentary The Loving Story about Richard and Mildred Loving, a white man and African-American woman who fell in love and were married in 1958. The couple was jailed by the state of Virginia, where they were making their home, and then banished from the state. The couple took the civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia, all the way to the Supreme Court, which ruled in their favor. “I was struck by the simplicity of the Lovings’ story, and I hope to make this a painfully beautiful film,” Nichols said in an earlier statement. Negga starred in 12 Years a Slave and World War Z. Shannon starred in Nichols’ Take Shelter.
Could be interesting. Little concerned with the number of race based films/ docs we've been getting recently it's been tried over and over again. Racial tensions are already pretty bad currently. You'd think movies and entertainment would be a good break away from it all, but apparently not. Off-topic side note: Her last name is Negga? That's unfortunate.
There were two . One that was on CBS and one on HBO. The HBO was a detailed docudrama. I think Woody Harrelson played Richard Loving.
There were two but I don't recall either of them being on network TV. Anyway there was no need for a third movie.
I also think that there was a program where the Lovings were interviewed and their children and other family members were also interviewed. I think it was on PBS. The CBS mini-series was about Rosa Parks. My bad.
