blackdemographics.com has a ton of info including some really eye opening info about decline of certain crimes and higher percentages of educational success, etc. I'm not finding it this moment but there is also something in there about convictions and harsher punishments, longer jail/prison terms etc.

What I said was they can't find jobs in a town with few low paying jobs but they're resourceful enough to find drugs to sell. I lived in a small all-white town, so all the kids had the same opportunities to find jobs. It wasn't a matter of the white kid getting a job over the black kid because he's white and his dad's a doctor. Some chose to find jobs, some didn't. They chose not to work. So in an all-black community, why do kids resort to selling drugs rather than finding a legal hustle? It's a legitimate question. But you just want to throw white privilege bullshit at me and say "she doesn't get it." rather than answer the question with a thoughtful explanation.

I think this has to do with opportunities and what people see around them.You are saying the kids in your town all had the same opportunities, why do think that some chose to sell drugs and others didn't? I think if kids grow up where it's "normal" for parents/relatives/friends to be dealing then it's a viable option.....especially when it's all around them. Of course there will be those who go a different route but it makes sense that it's more the exception than the rule. Whereas other kids in the same area and economic level make different choices but it could very well be that they had a stronger family foundation, a mentor, someone or something that helped them to see there was other options.


As a side note:
I lived in a rural area for quite a long time and there were kids who got in trouble and kids that didn't...it was very white there. Actually what I noticed is that often it was the kids who were more privileged who were selling drugs. Many of the kids that were getting things handed to them were doing crazy things and it wasn't because of lack of money or opportunities to do legitimate work. It also wasn't because it's what they knew to be normal. I found it really bizarre cause it's like the opposite of what happens with many black kids. But maybe the common thread is lack of parent involvement and guidance but for different reasons.

Yeah as in the articles blacks use at the same rate and more than likely sell at the sane rate but aren't getting busted like blacks.

Hell look at wall street and the prez candidates. Wall street is known for getting hookers and drugs but rarely hit u . Prez candidates admitted for using drugs so there you go.
