I was at the gas station. In front of me were three people. A woman walked to the front of the line and started talking to the guy in the front of the line and the cashier. The guy left and the woman stayed and talked to the cashier. the woman staggered a little bit and she was laughing loud . the next person in front of me was trying to pay and she started laughing with him. afterwards when the guy in front of me left, she turned to me and said hello and walked away. she kind of staggered away. it was obvious this woman was drunk. I looked at the cashier and the cashier looked at me and we laughed. I thought about it. I saw her at the pump and realized she's driving. I told the cashier and he looked out the window and he said "you're right. she is driving.". I went back to my car I wasn't sure if the cashier called the police or not . if you're in this situation what would you do? also tell a story in this thread and ask the forum what would they do?
That's a tough one. Whenever I tend bar I ask if the person is alright and offer to get them a taxi or cut them off. I might ask if she was alright to drive in a friendly way, to make sure she was at least aware of her condition, and offer to help.
I wouldn't want to attempt to physically restrain the person and/or take away car keys as that can get really messy. However, if it was the case that others such as another patron and/or shopkeeper wanted to team up... I'm game. I'd definitely look to see if I could flag down police or call with the hope of them arriving quickly. Kinda touchy because while most would want to help... There's always the possibility of somehow getting yourself into a bad situation.
I remember the time I was a security guard at a condo resort. The front desk person and I encountered a woman who was drunk. The front desk person offered to drive her home because she lived a little over a block away from the resort. She climbed into her car. We tried to stop her but she revved up the engine and sped down the street as we both watched in horror. She made it down to the corner. We never saw her again.
I'd call the police. I don't mess with people driving around drunk. You have a phone...take a pic or video of her and her car (license plate). There's also probably video at the gas station. I have to wonder if the guy working there sees something like that and doesn't call if he can be implicated like a bartender can be. Could you imagine if you then see on the news that this woman ended up killing someone out on the road and you hadn't done anything to prevent it?? One day I was sitting outside a shop in my car while my daughter ran into one of the shops to get something. I could see inside another shop while I was sitting there and there was a man in there taking things and putting them into a bag in the front of the shop outside of the view of the workers. He had a lady and a baby with him. He ended up shoving quite a bit of merchandise in the bag and walked out. What would you do?
I would call the police I don't like getting involved but I couldn't standby and do nothing I feel like it's your responsibility to say something to someone if something seems off A girlfriend of mine died just last week driving drunk the wrong way and ended up in a head on collision... fortunately she only hurt the other person but she lost her life and left three children behind. Someone did call the police because she was driving the wrong way and they saw her but it was too late...
