Bliss, I may be wrong! John Lennon co-wrote the song, the guitar riff was actually developed by Carlos Alomar (who also co-wrote it) and he played on the song too. I remember seeing David Bowie in a commercial for Pepsi cola. He played a computer nerd trying to create the Perfect Woman Everything was in place until he accidentally knocked his can of Pepsi into computer. Moments later, a woman appears and it is...wait for it. Tina Turner. The two sing and dance to Bowie's Modern Love.
It was said that the film Velvet Goldmine was based on David. Bowie and they wanted to use his music in the film. Bowie wanted no part of it. So, they used Gary Glitter, Lou Reed and other songs for the soundtrack.
Yeah, I think the title of the film threw me off. I thought of it as a gigantic Factory biopic built around the Velvet Underground.
If anything, I would sum up the film Velvet Goldmine as a love letter to that time when people were very brave, yet naive of a lot of things. And then it hits them; the realization that they are human. They are also afraid and alone, but suffering in silence.
