I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I'm watching Oprah and so far, Teri Hatcher and Cybil Shepard have been on and they look AWFUL! I've often heard "black don't crack" and I have no choice to admit that my black and latina friends look the same, yet my white friends have aged quite a bit. Is this really true? Do we really age faster? Do black men notice and care?

lol...very wise words andrea....!!! and i'd say teri hatcher looks like shit because she's a walking skeleton...and cybil has always needed her "moonlighting" to soften her

The beauty that once was vs a beauty that never was.....

White women are only hit with this because they are the most beautiful. Many of the women that haven't cracked only seem so, since no one was paying close attention. Some WW tend to have more pronounced wrinkles, when compared to other women is all......

    and Black men don't care

The woman is 60 years old, geez. You can't stay beautiful forever. ...I wonder if she ever slept with a Black guy???

i completely agree. it's a little joke my gf's and i have whenever we have our phototaken we ask for the cybil shepard "moonlighting" because in that show she always had a soft glow around her. i only know she slept with elvis...

I think a potential "scientific" explanation is that white skin is most vulnerable to the sun's damaging UV rays (apparently sun exposure is the leading cause of wrinkles, which is why face creams usually have SPF).

That's the only reason I can really think of if there are differences. I also think that dry skin can wrinkle more easily than more oily skin maybe...

Good observation. I also heard face shots aren't good for the skin contrary to popular belief so if porn is an indication of real life.... lol

    Exactly!

If WW had more melanin, they'd be less vulnerable.

One can look older without wrinkles. Add stress, poor diet, health issues or just downright looking matronly....

I feel silly for forgeting it was Teri Hatcher. I remember her being so much better looking when she had a little meat on her bones. I think perhaps there were just awful examples on this show.

    Very true!!

Many, many white people get burned in the sun and/or expose themselves to the sun's harmful rays. I know white men and women who burn/tan all the time and are younger than me and look older than me. A white guy I work with has had pretty bad crow's feet around his eyes and he's a good 4 years younger than me and he's had that for as long as I've worked with him (6 years). He tans/burns all the time so even in his late 20s his face was already showing signs of aging.

I stay out of the sun as much as I can, and with the fiasco I had with sunblock a couple of months ago, I don't trust putting anything on my face anymore, so I guess I'll be wearing a hat in the sun from now on.

I think diet, smoking, drug/alcohol abuse, sun exposure, health, stress, and genetics all can play a role in how young or old people look for their age.

Thank you! I come by it naturally though. Neither of my parents really started looking their age until their mid-60s. :smt023

You're welcome! Same with my parents, although my pops Cancer has aged him.

I look at my sister and mother as my blueprint, yet they're not pale like me.

I think genetics plays a fairly important role, even if the skin tone is different.

As long as you protect yourself in the sun, it should be all good!!

    That's true....

No sunbathing, no smoking, no drinking, but my downfall will probably be stress...

Start combating stress as best as you can: do things you love to do, meditate, yoga, whatever. It helps!!
