Marilyn Monroe was pretty obsessive about keeping herself in great shape and other things like self improvement. She wanted to be taken seriously as an actress. This was the way she did it. Too bad she died.

This style must've inspired the song Short Shorts(co-written by Bob Gaudio).

Ultra-rare photograph of abolitionist Harriet Tubman is sold for $161,000 as part of picture album from the 19th century
    • A rare photograph of Harriet Tubman, taken around 1868, has sold at auction
    • It was estimated to be sold for $20,000-$30,000 but sold for a total of $161,000
    • A crowdfunded attempt to bring it back to Auburn, New York raised $27,000
    • But the Harriet Tubman national historic site were outbid by a Manhattan dealer
    • (Word is the Smithsonian bought it)

The picture shows her seated on a chair and was taken in Auburn in 1868 or 1869. She was in her late 40s at the time and may be the earliest photograph taken of her.

Great info. The short shorts photo was taken in the 1950's not the 40's.

    History:
1958: The skateboard is made from roller skates attached to a board. This is really where it all starts. As surfing became more popular, skating becomes a way to surf when there are no waves—"sidewalk surfing."

1959: Roller Derby" mass produces a skateboard with metal wheels.
