Being in one of only 5 states and the District of Columbia that allows gay marriage legally, I'd like to formally applaud the downfall of DADT. Not only was it unconstitutional and discriminatory, but it was un-american. Our country and our military are stronger due to the efforts of our great president.

Thank you Mr. Obama for striving to fulfill one of your main campaign goals. You will beat back all those conservative haters yet and without a doubt win a second term as President of the United States.

note: the comments stated above are those of only 1 (straight) Black American and do not represent the opinions of the rest of Black America or the religious right that are scared of the "lifestyle" of homosexuality.

I think people need to cut him some black, especially the people here. They are still a wee bit too indulged for that magical overhaul of perception when in fact, President Obama has done a great job so far, especially with this lame duck session.

Doesn't matter who the Pres. is. People are going to complain one way or another.

Just sit back and say fuck it, or you can go out and vote, only to come back home and be pissed off anyways.

Exactly. I'm not a blind supporter or anything, but I do acknowledge a lot about the United States and just because he promised change, doesn't mean he'll do it overnight. Things take time and people treat all this like it's a two hour long movie. Nothing ever gets done in a small period of time. You have think when you're the commander in chief or in any piece of political office.

I'm glad it is getting repealed. There's simply no room in this country for hatred based on sexual orientation, race, etc. It was an utter shame that it ever came to exist in the first place! Gay people don't bite. Their presence isn't going to infect you- they are friggin' people, too!

I hope legalizing gay marriage is next.

Really, Obama is doing the best he can, and far more than people expected he would be able to pull off. We are so instant gratification that we aren't willing to wait, but I think he's doing OK.

    This.

What will be interesting is how he'll manage with a GOP majority House.

having communal showers with 'openly' gay men, is the closest we'll get to having Co-Ed showers/bathrooms like in 'Starship Troopers'

i think it may be weird at first tho...for the straight people. I think gays will be more open about their orientation, and won't be afraid to let others know by flirting or whatever.

You can't really stereotype gay people like that. I'm sure they won't turn into incredibly flamboyant men when they come out. It would be weird at first, but it's more psychological when you take that into account.

Geez...well, if you wake up with a sore ass in the morning, don't start coming after anyone with a gun because people would think you're the modern day Gangstalicious.

If you get a boner in the shower with other men...

petty is a repressed homosexual, so he likes this far more than what he's willing to let on.

    In fact, he loves it.

will be weird? I don't think so. Like some of these reports stated. Straight folks have already served with gay people. The only thing that is changing is gay people having to hide their sexuality. The same rules and regulations(I imagine) will be the same excluding having a DADT policy.

which could mean a whole lot of things (like scoping out your package), without fear of being kicked out.

like i said, the closest thing there is to taking showers with 'openly' heterosexual women.

it's one thing when a guy hides his gayness, and a whole other thing when they don't.

While true, I don't think getting kicked out of the military for taking a peak is what was the concern. More of I might get beat up is probably what is doing it.
Also, don't they separate the showers by curtains or something so no one sees anything?

depends on which base you go to. some bays have side walls, some don't.

you gotta break down that sense of self and get used to being around other people. you may find yourself taking a shit with someone watching over you in the field one day. it's all about survival and brotherhood.

You're stereotyping poorly again. I know a good load of gay and lesbian people and they're not sexually promiscuous or checking out everyone. If anything, I'd say you're fairly sexually insecure if you're sole focus would be a gay looking at your ass.
