Please stop approaching people like that..

It's what I *WISH* I could say to *some* denizens of our IR community..

Or rather those that are DESPERATE to BECOME one of said community...

Before I "cut to the chase" per se, I just want to say that this thread NEEDS to be introduced :)smt058) by none other than The De-Lightful, De-Lovely lipstick herself...and her *sage* observation:

    From http://www.whitewomenblackmen.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13782

Ennyroad, this is about a Brutha named Charles...whom I met at one of the Stateside studios I was working in..(Location & Production Company shall remain anonymous to protect the innocent)

I was a solo act at said studio..and I *did* have a photo of me & Mrs. on my desk...as any Self-Respecting Good Family Man is inclined to do..

In any case, Charles, who I *did* have a cordial association with at studio...came up to my desk, and took a gander at me & Mellisa..

With eyes widening and with voice timbre rising, he queied "Is that your wife?"

Of course, I replied the obvious..

And, with broad ear-to-ear smile, he offered a handshake...as if to....congratulate me(??)

And although I *did* accept the handshake graciously...Inwardly, Yours Truly took THE GRAVEST EXCEPTION AND UMBRAGE to his unspoken (yet VERY loudly proclaimed) assertion that *I* had myself a "White Trophy Wife"....and afterward, I did my best to (respectfully, not in a hostile way) steer clear of the bloke..

IMHO, THAT WAS NOT CRICKET, M8!!

Not at ALL! It was (and IS) *ONLY* about finding The One who would be my Life Partner, My Muse, My Inspiration, My Soulmate..

And that's ALL that it SHOULD be....

It reminds me of a passage from a book written by renowned authors Mark & Gail Mathabane, who...when walking a city street on The East Side of The States...passed two Black fellas who exclaimed to each other:

"Hey, look, he got hisself a White girl!"

"She don't be bad lookin', either!"

Mark M. (understandably) said it cut through his insides (paraphrasing) that for SOME people, the ONLY thing that they percieve that "every Black man is 'out to get a White girl...'"

As Gail M. later queried, "What about true and mutual love?" (paraphrasing)

It's just a bloody freakin' shame that this allegedly "Sophisticated & Enlightened United States Society" (and yes I *MUST* place emphasis on THE STATES...because this is where Yours Truly and my then-lovers and later wife have had to contend with such puerile attitudes almost EXCLUSIVELY!!!!! Hate to say it's so...but it IS!) STILL caries certain Myths and Stereotypes towards IR - both pro and con!

IMHO, it's just as bad for you to "kiss" me because of either my being in an IR, or because I'm a Black fella, than it is to *kick* me for same...In fact it might be even *worse*..

When it all comes down to Brass Tacks, Talking Wurst, or whatever...

I say again....it's **ONLY** about finding The One who would be My Life Partner, My Muse, My Inspiration, My Soulmate...

And My One & ONLY True Love..

And that...is all that it SHOULD be..

For that is all that anyone needs..

Um, are you absolutely certain he wasn't just congratulating you because she's beautiful?

Assuming not, then he's clearly an ass. Sorry you have to deal with that from coworkers, it must be disgusting to have someone view your relationship that way.

    Well, that, too .. obviously..

Still & all, I hafta digress with that "Glass-Is-Half-Full" bit concerning said bloke..

And I've experienced worse...MUCH worse...at the hands of co-workers and so-called "friends" 70% of the time that I *have* worked Stateside....Mostly from that Garden Spot Of The Western World...The Mistake On The Lake, Cleveland, Ohio...but even in the studios afterward..

All other aspects of *that* occasion aside..I *did* get a glimpse of what was in his mind a few weeks or so prior to said occasion..

He was in conversation with his 'homies' about a Femme Fatale that he made certain everyone knew that *he* thought was The Bee's Knees:

    "She wasn't like those *other*...you know...*DARK* Sistas..

    She was *really* good-looking...

She was, like, real purty...light-skinded with *good, long, *straight* hair..."

Do I need to expound ANY further to give you an idea of where HIS head was at?

    I rest my case.

    Case closed. Next case.

that is the dynamics of life. it sucks that people are so ignorant.

the part where its stated he got hisself a white gurl

it is like he went hunting in the woods and bagged him one and now he is going to mount her on the wall

The attitude towards relationships (of ANY kind) that *I* personally resent and find amongst the most loathsome of them all.:smt011
